Vlinder 2.0 kicks off

After measuring for one year, this week the project entered a new stage. During the so-called Vlinder 2.0 the measurements will be continued at nearly all locations with the support of many local partners.

On Tuesday 01/12/20 we kicked off a new stage of the Vlinder project. The first year of measurements is finished, but the network will remain operational with the support of many local partners. They include among others local administrations (cities, provinces,...), industry and nature reserves. We would like to thank all these partners for their support. Below you can find an overview map of the Vlinder 2.0 network including the partners.

During the coming months some additional weather stations will be installed by new schools (blue).

What to expect about Vlinder 2.0?

We will continue to collect unique and accurate weather observations with schools. During the coming months teachers will continue to use the data for their courses. The existing educational material (online in dutch by now) will be extended with additional material to investigate thermal comfort starting from the Vlinder data. This additional material is currently being tested by students and will be launched soon.

We will facilitate the use of the data by the many parthers by updating the Vlinder dashboard . We also developed an API to extract the realtime data. This permits partners to create, for example, realtime visualizations on their website or use the data for smart applications.

Apart from the continuation of the measurements at nearly all locations, there will be some additional weather stations installed by new schools. Companies, cities, schools,... who would also be interested in joining this network can contact us.
